If you, like me, wish you could kill off AI some days, I have the antidote.
Take pictures of protest.
A protest cannot be manufactured artificially. It is accelerated, amplified, augmented and even fomented by technology but the genesis will always remain human. If you are one of those creeps that will do anything for clicks, then scare yourself up some conflict and start taking pictures of it. It’s better, however, to be there when the real deal goes down.
When I started to document the recent unrest in Minneapolis with cinema cameras and a photojournalist’s eye for the “essential truth,” I did not set out to get my pictures used in a White House Press Conference, but it happened. Five million organically generated visits to my website later, my original insight into AI and photography has been validated.
AI can make a picture but it cannot take one.
To live in that rare zone beyond robots, therefore, concentrate on taking great pictures of the human condition in conflict. It can be a large conflagration or more contained and hidden, but it still takes a human like you, and only you, to bring it to light.
So, pick up that camera and start killing it.
